Cereal time!

I've been having some signals for a few weeks now that Elyse might be ready for cereal... I tried to postpone it as long as possible, for convenience only (isn't that awful?), but this little piggy seems to be hungry! Here are some pictures of the grand event. Both Jordan and I are a bit OCD when it comes to food all over a baby's face, but we had to admit, it has its own element of cuteness :) We both had to try VERY HARD not to keep wiping her face, though! I know, we'll get used to it... right?

Trying out her high chair for the first time...

This face says it all!

By this point, we were laughing our heads off.

"Mom, is this my very first punishment?"

Daddy got to give it a shot, too (feeding, that is- not eating).

She did seem to have fun in between bites! :)

Sue, I did the same thing putting off cereal for the reason of convenience. To me, it was just so much easier just to nurse every four hours for as long as that was enough food to keep them sleeping 11-12 hours at night! :-)

I also put off something else for the sake of convenience -- having the girls learn to feed themselves with a spoon! I knew the end result would be so great, but the process is so messy. I tried to start with something sticky and that would stay on the spoon easily like oatmeal -- I had no idea oatmeal could get in so many different places the first time I left the girls alone to eat it and went and washed dishes or whatever. So funny -- we're in this process with Krista right now! But just like Elyse will figure out how to get her tongue in the right place so it doesn't push the food back out (if she's doing that), Krista will figure out how to get oatmeal neatly into her mouth. And the OCD parents are stretched along the way. :-)

I am SO not ready for this next stage yet. I'm just not ready for him to be this grown up. :) I'm at least hoping to wait until after we move to tackle this next thing!

Karis, that is hilarious! What a great idea, though, to use sticky foods... Elyse is already trying to grab the spoon! Yuk... You're right, nursing 4xs a day was WAY simpler... :( oh, well- the things we do for our kiddos! :)

Oh, this is way too funny! I am laughing outloud at her many faces. :) And I can almost picture you and Jordan wiping her face b/t every little bite - if she has a horrible rash around her mouth, we know why. :) So glad she likes her cereal - you must keep taking pictures, especially when she gets to all those lovely bright vegetables!

So funny! Love the faces. You'll have to try making it with apple juice in a couple months and see if she has the same reaction as Eli... :) I knew it wouldn't be long until your OCD tendencies were stretched to the limit. Just wait till she starts crawling around the beach! ha! :) Oh, and trying to grab the spoon...

Awe the first feeding. I cried throughout Preston's first feeding. Audrey didn't like her first cereal feeding so I waited a month and then let Preston feed her. She liked it better that way.
